This class is for students that want a highly in-depth and challenging course from the basics up to advanced techniques for accurate representational drawing. Subjects that will be covered are linear perspective, basic forms and how to imaginatively manipulate them, ellipses and why they are so important, ellipses in perspective, simple contour, complex contour, atmosphere, gesture, figure drawing, portrait drawing, landscape/cityscape, still life, figures in perspective, value pattern, value structure and composition/design. We will also learn ways of ideation and how to create mood boards. This class is broken down into 10 easy to understand classes that are designed to give students all the knowledge they need to set them on a journey of making their imaginations came to life in a a representational pictorial way and give them freedom to be able to say what they desire to say with their visual language. Students will begin to understand perceptual drawing which is the combination of conceptual and observed information and sharpen their minds and eyes.
Supplies needed: charcoal pencils hard and soft, vine charcoal, newsprint pad 18x24, graphite pencils 2h, hb, 2b,4b, 8b. Kneaded eraser.
Optional supplies, Sketchbook 6x8, Fabriano or other brand charcoal medium grit paper 18x24, drawing board, standing portable easel, chamois cloth, rubber eraser, block charcoal, Faber Castell pencils or similar for sketchbook
About the artist: Dan Tipton has a bachelors in fine arts with an illustration concentration. He has taught privately for several years and is currently seeking his Masters of Fine arts in painting and drawing to enable to teaching on the university level. Dan has exhibited in several Alabama locations in recent years to include, The Kelley Fitzpatrick, The Montgomery Art center, The art mill at Millbrook, Theart incorporated gallery, and has a solo show scheduled for Gadsden Museum of art in September 2026. , Dan is passionate about traditional art making and understanding the concepts needed to visually represent conceptual ideas.
