Shoot For The Stars All Girls Basketball Academy - All Girls Basketball Academy - FEBRUARY - Spring 2026 - JT Global
Shoot For The Stars – All Girls Academy is a weekly basketball skill development program designed specifically for girls ages 9–13. This academy provides a positive, competitive, and confidence-building environment where young female athletes can learn, grow, and develop both on and off the court. Held at Dean Road Recreation Center every Wednesday from 6:30–7:45 PM, the program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of basketball, including ball handling, shooting, footwork, passing, defense, and overall game understanding. Each session is built to help athletes improve their skills through structured training, high-quality repetitions, and game-like drills. Our goal is to help girls build confidence, develop strong habits, learn teamwork, and fall in love with the process of getting better. Players will be encouraged to compete, communicate, and support one another in an all-girls setting that promotes growth and leadership. The monthly cost is $100, which includes 4 sessions per month. Whether your daughter is new to the game or looking to take her skills to the next level, the Shoot For The Stars All Girls Academy is a great opportunity to train, improve, and be part of something special. Lee County Special Olympics - Special Olympics Basketball Practice - Fall 2025
Auburn Parks and Recreation supports Special Olympics by sponsoring teams for many of the Special Olympic events. Currently, we support athletes for basketball, bowling, flag football, golf, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Practices take place throughout the year with the help of local Special Olympics’ volunteer coaches. You must be at least 8 years of age and meet the requirements of the Alabama Special Olympic Guidelines to participate. We currently need Coaches for our Special Olympic Athletes. If you have the time and the interest to help coach these dynamic and fun-loving kids, please contact the Lee County Special Olympics Director or the State office today!Aquatics PracticeJoin us to refine your swim strokes and improve your speed. Must have basic knowledge of swimming, water skills, and respectful swimming (no splashing, spitting water, etc.). We will work on stroke refinement and speed leading up to the swim meets, to include preparation for State Games in May 2026. FREE to Therapeutic Program Participants. Basketball PracticeBasketball is one of the top sports at Special Olympics. Players of all ages and abilities will enjoy this sport, from young players learning to handle the ball to older, more experienced players learning the strategies. Join us to learn basketball skills and participate in the State Basketball Competition! State competition is usually on a Thursday and Friday the first week in March and it is held in Montgomery. Ability to attend the state competition is required for participation. FREE. Bowling PracticeAlthough Bowling does not belong to the Olympic sports, it is among the most popular sports in Special Olympics. It is a particularly beneficial sport to people with intellectual disabilities, irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration. Plus, it's great fun! Athletes will prepare for the early spring tournament and State Games. Practice will continue through May 2026 and ends with State Games. $3.50/game to be paid at AMF Lanes.Cornhole LeagueJoin us and learn the basics of this new Special Olympics sport. This game can be played individually, athlete v. athlete, or unified, in athlete/peer partner teams. Practices will be led by members of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. FREEGolf PracticeJoin us to refine your swing and practice chipping and putting. This is an instructor-led practice. Please bring your clubs if you have them or plan to rent clubs. Cost of Club Rental @ Pines Crossing Golf CourseVolleyball PracticeJoin us to learn volleyball skills and participate in the State Volleyball Competition! State competition is usually on a Friday in late November or early December, and it is held in Montgomery at Faulkner University. Ability to attend the state competition is required for participation. FREETrack and Field PracticeJoin us to learn Track and Field skills. There is an area Track and Field Meet in April each year for all area school districts, and practice will continue after that for athletes chosen to attend State Games in May. FREE **Registration is required for each sport - this includes completing health forms and release forms.**Registration for the 2025-2026 Special Olympics Season begins August 4 and ends December 29. This enables us to plan teams and determine the number of athletes we will have at practices and competitions! Lee County Special Olympics - Special Olympics Basketball Practice - Fall 2025
Auburn Parks and Recreation supports Special Olympics by sponsoring teams for many of the Special Olympic events. Currently, we support athletes for basketball, bowling, flag football, golf, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Practices take place throughout the year with the help of local Special Olympics’ volunteer coaches. You must be at least 8 years of age and meet the requirements of the Alabama Special Olympic Guidelines to participate. We currently need Coaches for our Special Olympic Athletes. If you have the time and the interest to help coach these dynamic and fun-loving kids, please contact the Lee County Special Olympics Director or the State office today!Aquatics PracticeJoin us to refine your swim strokes and improve your speed. Must have basic knowledge of swimming, water skills, and respectful swimming (no splashing, spitting water, etc.). We will work on stroke refinement and speed leading up to the swim meets, to include preparation for State Games in May 2026. FREE to Therapeutic Program Participants. Basketball PracticeBasketball is one of the top sports at Special Olympics. Players of all ages and abilities will enjoy this sport, from young players learning to handle the ball to older, more experienced players learning the strategies. Join us to learn basketball skills and participate in the State Basketball Competition! State competition is usually on a Thursday and Friday the first week in March and it is held in Montgomery. Ability to attend the state competition is required for participation. FREE. Bowling PracticeAlthough Bowling does not belong to the Olympic sports, it is among the most popular sports in Special Olympics. It is a particularly beneficial sport to people with intellectual disabilities, irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration. Plus, it's great fun! Athletes will prepare for the early spring tournament and State Games. Practice will continue through May 2026 and ends with State Games. $3.50/game to be paid at AMF Lanes.Cornhole LeagueJoin us and learn the basics of this new Special Olympics sport. This game can be played individually, athlete v. athlete, or unified, in athlete/peer partner teams. Practices will be led by members of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. FREEGolf PracticeJoin us to refine your swing and practice chipping and putting. This is an instructor-led practice. Please bring your clubs if you have them or plan to rent clubs. Cost of Club Rental @ Pines Crossing Golf CourseVolleyball PracticeJoin us to learn volleyball skills and participate in the State Volleyball Competition! State competition is usually on a Friday in late November or early December, and it is held in Montgomery at Faulkner University. Ability to attend the state competition is required for participation. FREETrack and Field PracticeJoin us to learn Track and Field skills. There is an area Track and Field Meet in April each year for all area school districts, and practice will continue after that for athletes chosen to attend State Games in May. FREE **Registration is required for each sport - this includes completing health forms and release forms.**Registration for the 2025-2026 Special Olympics Season begins August 4 and ends December 29. This enables us to plan teams and determine the number of athletes we will have at practices and competitions! Please note, if you are registering for a team sport you are expected to participate in 75% of practices and travel with the team for all tournaments/events associated with that sport. Shoot For The Stars – All Girls Academy is a weekly basketball skill development program designed specifically for girls ages 9–13. This academy provides a positive, competitive, and confidence-building environment where young female athletes can learn, grow, and develop both on and off the court. Held at Dean Road Recreation Center every Wednesday from 6:30–7:45 PM, the program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of basketball, including ball handling, shooting, footwork, passing, defense, and overall game understanding. Each session is built to help athletes improve their skills through structured training, high-quality repetitions, and game-like drills. Our goal is to help girls build confidence, develop strong habits, learn teamwork, and fall in love with the process of getting better. Players will be encouraged to compete, communicate, and support one another in an all-girls setting that promotes growth and leadership. The monthly cost is $100, which includes 4 sessions per month. Yoshukai Karate - Yoshukai Karate - Beginner Children’s Class- Spring 2026 - Family First LLC
Karate is a martial art that emphasizes self-confidence, self-discipline, respect, and physical fitness. In this class we focus on coordination, physical fitness, listening skills, and teach the basics of karate: strikes, blocks, and kicks. We will begin teaching kata, the basis for practicing all techniques. In the advanced and older participant classes, you may engage by physical contact with the instructor and with specialized equipment. In sparring there will be physical contact with other students in a controlled environment. Each class will also include physical activity and exercises to develop coordination and control.
